Rebound
literally rebounding in my poetry writing with a new poem.
Rebound I only remember the good-byes, face flat on the floor with sweat and scars indented like tire treads, my own skin biting at my flesh as I pick my scabs until I am red, warning signs of an early death, death by the rebound, they get up so fast, throwing the second jab while I am still reeling down to the ground, am I an organ donor, did they not take all that my body had to give, all of the toys I had as a kid sold as vintage at the thrift, they brand me with a price, an ear tag as if I am cattle, call me schizophrenic, but they are herding me off to the machine to get rid of me, they are ordering the people to skip town and tear the houses down, but I am a poltergeist, hear the sound of my feet grounding into the dirt of the front yard of the house that I have never left, and I will never leave.
